Fishing in Costa Rica
When you think about the name of this beautiful country, it literally means “ Rich coast “, so you can only expect the best fishing conditions out there.
Costa Rica can offer you almost anything you want, simply fishing just doesn’t get any better than you will find in this amazing country.
There you can find dolphins, giant yellowfin tuna, cubera, wahoo, snook and so much more. A lot of operators on the Caribbean have put much bigger and faster boats and they are able to catch as many fish as they can.
Caribbean can regularly catch so many different kinds of fish, along with Atlantic sailfish, tuna to over 100 pounds, blue marlin, dorado and so many others.
If you are dedicated and ambitious fisherman, Costa Rica can also offer you hundreds of miles of rivers and even some lakes that can always provide you plenty of sport if you are into sports activities.
One of the most popular lakes in Costa Rica is lake Arenal, and it is located about four hour drive from San Jose. There you can find a rainbow bass, a member of cichlid family. Many rivers in Costa Rica also have rainbow bass, along with bobo which is a fresh water mullet, mojarra, colorful cichlid which looks like a giant bluegill with teeth. Then you can find machaca, which they often call sabalito or even a little tarpon because of its acrobatic jumps.
Lake Arenal is open to fishing during the year, but you may encounter one problem. If you want to fish in Costa Rica you need to have a valid Costa Rican fishing license.
