What is fluke fishing and where can you do it?
For most fishermen, it does not really matter what kind of fish they catch. Of course, there are some fishing trips that are more exciting than others, but what really matters is the relaxation that one gets by being on or near the water. Fluke fishing is popular around the middle and north Atlantic all year round, and it gathers thousands of fishermen from all over the country.
If you have a preference for expensive fish but you can’t always get it, then the fluke is an excellent alternative. It can be served raw or cooked, and many fishermen choose to fish for it for this reason alone. Although it can be found all year round, the fluke has a tendency to stay close to shore during the summer months and be more active when the weather starts to get cold.
Why is it so interesting to catch this fish? The fluke doe not swim around waiting to be caught. It will bury itself in the sand and wait for the prey to come to them. It takes a lot of patience to find a place where a fluke might be, and to stay there until one of them bites. Since this fish prefers to be solitary, it will notice movement of a boat or talking and moving on board. It is important to not use your motor or oars, be silent and still……..and patient!
Since this fish likes to have the prey close before attacking, he will not chase your lure. If you want to increase your chances of catching these wily fish, use live worms as bait rigs and keep close to the shore.
